Background

The project was situated in a dockland area in South Wales. The client ‘s requirement included adding a second wind turbine onto their private network to generate profitable returns, reduce their environmental impact and operational costs. C&P Engineering Services were tasked with designing and installing the electrical infrastructure and installing a 11kV switchboard installation to meet the client’s requirements and objectives.

11kV Switchboard Installation: Technical Requirement

  1. High Voltage Design, Earthing Design, Power Systems Design, Harmonic Study, Protection Grading Study
  2. Site Management of the Installation
  3. Installation – Installed a 11kV switchboard. All of our high voltage electrical employees are Hawker Siddeley trained to install their specific switchgear. All employees are fully certified to install and maintain eclipse switchboards.
  4. Installation of 600m of HV cable. Cable jointing was carried out using the preferred joint (LOVINK). All HV electrical employees are also fully competent and LOVINK trained to carry this out.
  5. Raychem Terminations.
  6. Testing & Commissioning which included:
    – VLF Pressure Testing
    – Cable & Switchboard Commissioning
    – Protection Testing
    – Installed an Intrertrip Scheme
    – Installed a Battery Tripping Unit

Outcome

Successful Installation – C&P Engineering Services have built a strong relationship with the client and are carrying out additional projects and further maintenance works.
