Offshore Wind HV Engineers – HV Services certified to work on offshore wind farms

Offshore Wind HV Engineers

Offshore Wind HV Engineers…

Offshore Wind HV Engineers – Six High Voltage Electrical employees from HV Services have successfully completed the GWO (Global Wind Organisation) accredited offshore wind health and safety survival training course. The completion of the globally recognised training will enable HV Services to increase its operations within the offshore renewable energy industry.

The HV team consisting of 1 supervisor, 1 engineer and 4 electricians undertook an intensive seven-day training course in which they covered modules in sea survival, first aid, manual handling, fire awareness and working at height and rescue.

Britain has accounted for more than half of the new offshore wind power capacity built in Europe last year, as the sector broke installation records across the continent. This has resulted in an increase in the demand for qualified HV engineering companies with experience to install, operate and maintain high voltage infrastructures for offshore wind assets.

The windfarms out in the North Sea and other shallow European waters are getting bigger in every sense. Soon turbines will almost be as large as the Shard, Europe’s tallest building. The average capacity of the 500-plus turbines connected to the grid was up by more than a fifth on the year before, with 17 windfarms on average a third more powerful.

HV is well positioned for the offshore wind industry as the company’s HV management team boasts more than 25 years experience in designing, building and operating high voltage electrical networks for onshore wind farms. In fact, the team have been involved in the construction of over 30 UK onshore sites, ranging from as small as 1MW up to a couple of hundred MW. HV currently maintain and operate over 60 wind farm assets across the UK and are involved with providing full balance of plant HV electrical services, including grid connections for the wind industry up to 132kV.

Safety is at the core of every project and HV operates a safe system of work and high voltage electrical safety management rules that are equal and aligned with the DNO’s safety management systems for the design, specification, selection, installation, commissioning, energisation and maintenance and operation of high voltage electrical networks.

HV Engineering Manager commented: “Following the GWO certified training we are now ready to provide both installation and operation and maintenance services to the offshore wind industry. All of our high voltage electrical employees and management team have spent many years working for DNO’s, from which they have gained valuable and specialist expertise and this means our customers can expect to receive a reliable, experienced, safe and quality service throughout the construction and operation of their assets.”

HV Services’ HV engineers provide design & build and operation & maintenance services to the onshore and offshore wind industry, covering design, erection, testing and commissioning and operating for both new HV electrical installations and refurbishment up to and including 132kV.
