Awarded Design & Build Contract for Pen Bryn Oer Wind Farm

Wind Farm – High Voltage Services are delighted to announce that it has been awarded the high voltage electrical design and build contract by REG WindPower for the Pen Bryn Oer Wind Farm, situated between Rhymney and Tredegar. The site will comprise of the 3 off Vesta V90 2MW Wind Turbines, generating 6 MW in total.

Pen Bryn Oer is located between the towns of Tredegar (2km to the east) and Rhymney (1km to the south west) in Caerphilly, South Wales. It is located along a northern ridge of a hill of maximum elevation of 457 m above sea level. Coal extraction, including opencast working, has previously been undertaken within and around the site, but it now comprises an area of restored pasture which is used for the grazing of horses and sheep.

HVS are providing BOP (balance of plant services) for the High Voltage Electrical infrastructure, which includes assisting WPD (Western Power Distribution) with the grid connection. Over the next 10 months HVS will be working on the design, electrical infrastructure, scada system, cable system, switchgrear, M&E fit out of the control building, auxiliary supply to the control building, grid compliance, design of capacitor bank, design and installation of earthing network, testing, commissioning and energisation of the 33kV private network.

“This is HVS’s first project with REG WindPower and we’re excited to deliver the balance of plant elements of this 6MW site and energise on time and within budget.” – David, High Voltage Engineering Manager
